There are many issues concerning our education. We can analyze the situation at different levels - high School, Pre University / +2, UG and PG. We all agree that there is need for improvement at all levels. Considering the talent and potential of our promising students and the competitive professional environment in today's world, it is our duty to prepare such students for a bright future by providing them quality education. They will be the future leaders who will create work and wealth for the society.
It is important to promote active research in UG-PG institutions in addition to providing quality education. Research and Teaching, when they co-exist, will enhance the quality of education and enrich the learning experience of the students. Forum is presently working towards this goal. Prof. J. Ramakrishna (Retd) from IISc, is the President.
Some of the major problems faced by the higher education system include:
Less emphasis on the development of cognitive skills and learning outcomes.
Lesser emphasis on research and lack of competitive peer reviewed research funding across disciplines.
Large affiliating Universities resulting in low standards of UG-PG education etc.
Remedial steps:
Revamping curriculum, pedagogy, assessment and student support for enhanced student experiences.
Inclusion of internships involving research, in the UG curriculum.
Vocational Education and Training (VET) should be included.
Gifted students and students with Special Talents should be identified and special attention provided to them to learn benchmark level knowledge and skills.

Centre for Physics and Centre for Mathematics have been set up as units of Forum for Excellence in Education to plan and implement the remedial steps.
CENTRE FOR PHYSICS is a Unit of Forum for Excellence in Education and aims to provide a common platform to bring together students, teachers and R&D workers to strengthen physics education and research in UG / PG Institutions. Also, Centre For Physics will endeavour to help promising UG/PG students to reach the National Level and pursue physics as a career option in Premier Institutions.
Proposed Activities
Organize seminars on current research topics to create interest in R&D, thus promoting research culture in UG/PG Institutions. Arrange internships for UG-PG students to introduce them to research methodology and guide them to carry out active research.
Promote a culture of organizing research groups across UG/PG Institutions and create common facilities leading to PhDs.
Develop in-house research laboratories in Centre for Physics, to carry out quality research with promising students, leading to PhDs.
Organize short term courses / workshops etc., for UG/PG students and teachers to bridge the gap between local and Global standards.
Set up a model "Experimental Physics" laboratory for UG/PG students and teachers as a facility.
Promote self learning skills with Library and Study Room.

7 subjects: Biotechnology(BT), Chemistry(CY), Economics(EN), Geology(GG), Mathematics(MA), Mathematical Statistics(MS), Physics(PH).
From the above table we can see that in JAM 2024 in PCM about 500 students per state per subject (out of 37 states) have registered.

From the above table, only 2732 registered from Karnataka, but only 2108 appeared for the IIT JAM exam. With an average of 300 students per subject (across 7 subjects), the participation remains low, affecting the qualifying percentage. Immediate remedy to improve the situation is to encourage more students to participate in the IIT JAM exam so that more students may clear the exam.

We invite BSc students interested in pursuing Physics or Mathematics as a career option to contact us and prepare seriously for the IIT JAM exam
